San Carlos Service

San Carlos, CA

These guys were great. I took my car in last minute for a Smog Check - they took the car immediately and I waited in the office playing with their really sweet dog, Theresa. She's a pitbull and something else - but a sweetheart of a dog. The owner was really nice too.

Reitmeir's Werkstatt Inc.

Los Altos, CA

Jeff Reitmeir is an AWESOME German car mechanic in Los Altos. He is the 2nd generation of Reitmeirs in this shop. He is honest and never has me fix/replace/service the car unless it is really due. Cost is always less than the MB dealer. The only downer is that because he is a family shop, he doesn't have loaner cars. (But he's right on Foothill, so it's a good bike ride down the peninsula.)

Little India Restaurant

Redwood City, CA

i wish i could give this place ZERO stars ... do NOT go here. EVER. terrible. i should have known when i walked in and the restaurant was empty and it was a buffet, but it received 4 stars on some other (clearly unreliable) website so i thought i would give it a try. the second bad sign was that the worker guy got up and stirred all of the dishes at the buffet before we ate. the food was yuk yuk yuk (and my stomach was churning all night long ... good thing it's made of steel!).

These guys are pretty good! Same day service, quality work, even gave me a ride to my office when I dropped off my car. I will definitely go back!

Viansa Winery

Sonoma, CA

Viansa is such a great meeting place. It is basically the first winery you get to on your way to Napa and Sonoma when you enter Carneros region, past Infineon racetrack. Views are spectacular and its a perfect place to grab a bottle, a sandwich and have a picnic. I always see people painting and shooting photos of the villa when I am there.. Very scenic. Closest thing to Tuscany we have!

This place needs some love. The wine list is great, ambience is contemporary and cozy, food is fairly priced and tasty. Next time you are in st helena, stop in and help keep them in business!

Pioneer Welding

San Ramon, CA

I've been using Pioneer for years and find them to be good mechanics at a fair price. They give a discount for AAA cardholders, but you need to present your card when you take your car in, not when you pick it up.

Teske's Germania

San Jose, CA

I went to Teskes Germania this past weekend to celebrate Festivus and a friend's 35th birthday. If you're going to visit, no need to get dressed up. The restaurant/ bar is somewhat of a traditional german restaurant with a bar in the front and some long tables in the back. Unlike Germany though, the tables weren't the long tables with benches you might be used to in the tents of Octoberfest. The idea was the same though... communal dining.

I lived in Germany for about three months and was always a fan of the pork knuckles so I gave that a try at Teske's. While not the best pork flank I've ever had, it was a great meal, very hearty portion, and the potato side dish and crout was fantastic.

The beer selection is quite good. Plenty of Pilsners, Weisen, and Dunkel beers on tap or in the bottle. So pony up and order a liter in a classic tent stein.

The decor is nothing to write home about and probably hasn't been updated since the early 70s. If you're trying to impress a date, this place is probably not going to do the trick for you. If you're with a big group who's looking to put down a couple steins of German beer and want to prost with the band, then Teskes is a fun night out.
