The terms "we" and "us" refer to InnerCircle. The terms "you" and "your" refer to you, as an individual who is a InnerCircle user (“User”). The term "personal information" means information that you provide to us which personally identifies you to be contacted or identified, such as your name, phone number, email address, and any other data that is tied to such information.
1. Information We Collect.
The purpose of the InnerCircle website is to permit Users to voluntarily provide information about themselves, their life experiences, and the businesses they use for the purposes of developing, maintaining and enhancing a network of personal and professional contacts. You willingly provide us certain personal information, which we collect in order to allow you to benefit from the Site. We use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that the collection of personal information is limited to that which is necessary to fulfill the purposes identified below. If we use your information in a manner different than the purpose for which it is collected, then we will ask you for your consent prior to such use.
We collect personal information in the following ways:
Account Information. If you create an account to take advantage of the full range of services offered on the Site, we ask for and record personal information such as your name and email address. We use your name to create your “account name” which consists of your first name followed by your last name, in other words your account name is your full name. We use your email address to send you updates and news, and contact you on behalf of other users (such as other users who send you questions, personal messages, or business reviews). You may choose not to receive e-mail of this type by accessing the "Settings" section on the Site and updating your notification settings.
Profile Information. Once you become a User, you may provide additional information in the personal profile section describing your skills, life experiences, and professional experiences. Providing additional information beyond what is required at registration to become a User is entirely optional, but enables you to better identify yourself to other Users in your personal or professional network.
Submissions. We store and may publicly display your submissions in order to provide the services that we offer. The term "submissions" refers to the information that you submit or post to the Site for display to other Users, such as business ratings, reviews, photos, questions, answers, and the information that you display as part of your personal profile. When we display your submissions, we do so together with your account name. When you create a submission you can define whether all InnerCircle Users or only the Users in your network can access the submission.
Customer Service. InnerCircle may collect information through the Site or through the customer service portion of the Site in order to, among other things, accurately categorize and respond to a User’s inquiry and deliver appropriate service levels.
Personal Messaging. In order to allow you to send and receive personal messages, emails, or questions to other Users of the Site, we record the messages that you send and receive using the InnerCircle inbox/ outbox, question and answers, and newsfeed features.
Information Collected by Third-parties. We may allow third-parties, including our authorized service providers, advertising companies, and ad networks, to display advertisements or provide applications and services on the Site. These companies may use tracking technologies, such as cookies or web beacons, to collect information about Users who view or interact with their advertisements or use their applications and services. This information allows them to deliver targeted advertisements and personalize online experiences and gauge their effectiveness. Some of the third-party advertising companies may be advertising networks that are members of the Network Advertising Initiative, which offers a single location to opt out of ad targeting from member companies (www.networkadvertising.org). InnerCircle or the Site does not provide any personal information to these third parties.
Activity. We record information relating to your use of the Site, such as the searches you undertake, the pages you view, your browser type, IP address, requested URL, referring URL, and timestamp information. We use this type of information to administer the Site and provide the highest possible level of service to you. We also use this information in the aggregate to perform statistical analyses of user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various areas of the Site. You cannot be identified from this aggregate information.
2. Use of the Information We Collect.
The purpose of the InnerCircle website is to help Users find information from and about the businesses, groups, and other Users they trust most. The personally identifiable information you choose to provide on the Site is used to help you describe yourself to other Users. Other information, that does not personally identify you as an individual, may be collected by InnerCircle from Users (such as, for example, patterns of utilization) and is exclusively owned by InnerCircle. This information can be utilized by InnerCircle in such manner as InnerCircle, in its sole discretion, deems appropriate.
We use the personal information we collect in the following ways:
Communications from InnerCircle. InnerCircle will communicate with you through email and notices posted on the Site or through other means available through the service, including text and other forms of messaging. If we send any communications to you via your mobile communications provider, you are responsible for any fees incurred for such communication (including text messaging charges for messages to your mobile device). Email communication from InnerCircle will include but is not limited to welcome messages, password validation or change emails, notices of questions posted by other Users, emails from other Users, and other emails from InnerCircle related to your account. InnerCircle may send you promotional information unless you have opted out of receiving such information. You can change your e-mail and contact preferences at any time by accessing the “Settings” section of the Site and updating your email preferences.
Network Updates. Information provided to InnerCircle is used to improve your experience and use of the Site. When you login to the Site we will display the account names of new Users who have recently joined your network. InnerCircle will also display Users that you may know and wish to add to your network. Your account name will also be displayed in a similar fashion to other Users with whom you are a part of their network or Users that may know you and wish to add you to their network.
Information Shared with Third Parties. InnerCircle will not sell, rent, or otherwise provide your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes. We will only share your personally identifiable information with third parties to carry out your instructions or to provide specific services or information. For instance, for business accounts we use a credit card processing company to bill Users for subscription fees. These third parties do not retain, share, or store any personally identifiable information except to provide these services and they are bound by confidentiality agreements which limit their use of such information. InnerCircle offers a personal profile feature which allows Users to publish portions of their InnerCircle profile to the public Internet and InnerCircle User community. Users may define which portions of their profile are exposed to other Users by editing their account settings and preferences. We may disclose information in the aggregate to third parties relating to user behavior in connection with actual or prospective business relationship with those third parties, such as advertisers and content distributors. For example, we may disclose the number of users that have been exposed to, or clicked on, advertising banners or text ads.
Surveys, Polls, Questions, and Answers. As a User, you will receive requests to participate in polls, surveys, and questions submitted by other InnerCircle Users. If you participate in surveys and polls or answer a question posted through the Site, the information you provide may be visible to others Users on the Site. If you post an answer to a question or participate in a poll or survey, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you choose to provide there can be read, collected, or used by other Users of Site. InnerCircle is not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums.
Communications to other Users. Many emails you initiate through InnerCircle, e.g., an invitation sent to a non-User, will list your name as the sender of the message. Emails you initiate may also provide aggregate information about your network (for instance how many people and businesses are in your network), but will not list the people to whom you’re directly connected. Other communications that you initiate through the Site, such as a request for contact or posted question, will list your name as the initiator but will not include your personal contact information. Your email contact information will only be shared with another User if both of you have indicated that you would like to establish contact with each other.
3. Managing Your Personal Information
Submissions and Emails. To the extent you include personal information in your submissions (such as a photo of yourself), third parties may be able to identify you, associate you with your user account, and contact you. Please do not include information in your submissions that you expect to keep private. Please also note that the personal messages you send or receive using the Site’s email feature are only private to the extent that you and the sender/recipient keep them private. For example, we do not have any control over whether a recipient of one of your personal messages publicly posts the contents of such a message.
Security and the Internet. Your account is password protected and we use industry standard measures to protect the personal information that is stored in our database. It is your responsibility to protect the security of your login information. We limit the access to your personal information to those employees and contractors who need access to perform their job function, such as our customer service personnel. Access and use of the Site is via the internet and therefore you hereby acknowledge that InnerCircle is not responsible for any intercepted information sent via the internet, and you hereby release us from any and all claims arising out of or related to the use of intercepted information in any unauthorized manner. Users should take care with how they handle and disclose their personal information and should avoid sending personal information through insecure email. Please refer to the Federal Trade Commission's website at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/data.shtm for information about how to protect yourself against identity theft.
